Acceptable Usage Policy

Even though all websites are private spaces (since they are hosted on private servers), we at VJCentral try to be as open as possible to all opinions because we believe in the freedom of speech and information.

However some kind of guidelines must be set to avoid abuses. A single member can destroy an entire community if this person is not stopped. So these guidelines below, which you accept by continuing to post on or visit VJCentral and/or VJForums, are here to guarantee a pleasant experience for the community as a whole, as well as to protect VJCentral from any legal troubles.

Please note this is very much a work in progress and you'll be notified through the message board when changes are made. If you have any question or issue regarding this document, please contact the editors at editors@vjcentral.com

Registration on VJCentral gives you access to a number of new features such as the possibility to post on the message board, post on VJCentral or discuss on the chatroom.

General Guidelines

The following rules apply on the whole site, including the VJCentral open-publishing system, the message board and the chatroom.

* Responsibility. Members are solely responsible for the content of their posts. VJCentral will accept no liability or legal consequences which may arise from content posted on the websites, but agrees to remove as quickly as possible any post which violates the Terms of Service. Editors and forum hosts are also responsible for their own posts.

* Banning. We reserve the right to deny access to VJCentral and/or VJForums to any member at any time, at our sole discretion. These websites are not public spaces and we don't have to accept members who, we feel, are harmful to the community and to the goals we are trying to achieve here.

* Spam. No unsolicited advertising (spam) will be allowed at all on the websites. If you're a developer you have the right to inform members about new products but avoid promotion material. Coming here exclusively to promote your product/service with total disregard from the community will not be accepted.

Open-Publishing System

The VJCentral open-publishing system allows any member to add new information in the database for the benefit of the whole community.

* Editorial. We reserve the right to remove any submission at our sole discretion. If we feel that a submission doesn't fit with the VJCentral editorial standards, we will contact you to improve it.

* Copyrights. All submissions on VJCentral are copyrighted to the original author unless otherwise mentioned. Do not submit anything that is not yours, except if you have the express permission. Submissions don't require exclusivity and thus you can repost on other websites if you are the author of the original submission.

* Sections Guidelines. Each section of the VJCentral website comes with different guidelines outlined above the forms to add new content. Please read these guidelines before posting and make sure you comply to them.

Message Board

The VJCentral message board, also known as VJForums, is provided as a service for members to discuss on various topics related to VJing. We expect members to behave with courtesy, maturity and respect, no matter what their opinion is. These guidelines are here to guarantee a pleasant experience to all members.

* Abuse. It is not allowed to post anything which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, excessively abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, threatening or invasive of a person's privacy.

* Personal attacks. Don't attack others in any way. Challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully without insults and personal attacks.

* Real life attacks. Attempts to harm another member in real life due to disagreements through the forums are taken very seriously and will result in an immediate ban from this member.

* Free speech. Free speech is encouraged on the forums, as long as it stays on the boundaries of the points mentioned on the TOS. Members who prevent other members to fully express themselves will not be tolerated.

* Discussions on copyrights. VJCentral does not encourage members to break the law, however we feel that discussions on such topics are critical for the the future of VJing and thus anyone is invited to express their opinion on the subject on the Laws & Ethics Discussions forum. Please note however that if you're looking for legal advices in your country, you need to contact a lawyer.

* Off-topic postings. Keep your threads related to the forum and the posts related to the thread. If a thread doesn't belong to any forum's topic, post it on the "General Chat" forum. If a post doesn't belong to the thread's initial topic, start a new thread. Failure to comply will result in your post being moved or deleted, if moving was not possible.

* Multiple posting. Posting the same message on several forums or threads is not allowed. Please choose the forum/thread where your post best fit.

* Signature. To guarantee a pleasant reading experience, images on signatures should not be higher than 100 pixels and texts shouldn't be longer than 5 lines. You should also refrain from an excessive use of colors, large fonts and smilies.

* Reporting. If you see a post which violates the Terms of Service, please notify the forum host (listed under the forum title).

* Ignoring. If a member annoys you but does not particularly violates the Terms of Service, you are encouraged to use the ignore feature of the message board system which will hide any (past and future) posts made by this member.

* Moderated status. Members who fail to comply with the Terms of Services may be put under moderation, as a first measure before a possible ban. It means all new post they make will be put on a queue and will have to be approved by an editor before it is displayed on the message board.

* Private Messages. The message board system makes it possible for members to send private messages (PMs) between each other. Since these messages are private, VJCentral cannot be responsible for their content. However in case of abuses, please contact editors@vjcentral.com. Please note it's possible to turn off PMs from the forum control panel.

* Attachements. The message board system makes it possible to attach files to posts. However do not attach any file which contain copyrighted material of any sort, as they are hosted on VJCentral.
