This mixer is a two input mixer similar to the older model MX-12. It offers some different features, but lacks a few as well. See MX-12 review for basic info on this mixer line.
The plus points compared to a MX-12 are:
- joystick has double functionality (positioner and colour correction)
- color correction can be used on both channels
- more wipe patterns
- digital effects can be assigned to both channels
- a/v synchro for digital effects
- lumakey can mix both video channels, not only one and color
The flaws compared to a MX-12 are:
- backgrund color selection via repeated button pushes; but you don't see which colour is chosen until you use it
- downstream key can not be cropped from top AND bottom (only one fader)
- major flaw: no master fader for video signal
The MX-50 is the next bigger mixer and offers all of the good points plus the missing ones and even more. I strongly recommend to rent each mixer and try them out before buying any model. You simply have to find out which suits you. Unfortunately all of these mixers are out of production.
